We've known this day has been coming for months -- ever since that day back in February when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) opted to remove wrestling from the programme of Olympic sports for 2020 and 2024. Today is the last chance saloon for wrestling's Olympic hopes, with the IOC membership voting on which of three sports -- wrestling, squash, or baseball/softball -- to consider adding to the Olympic programme in 2020 and 2024. The IOC membership has convened in Buenos Aires to make several important decisions this weekeend; yesterday they voted to grant the 2020 Olympic hosting rights to Tokyo, while today they'll decide on the fate of the three aforementioned sports and on Tuesday they'll elect a replacement for outgoing IOC president Jacques Rogge.
Here's a schedule of today's events (all times CST):
8:30 am-9:00 am: baseball/softball presentation and Q&A
9:00 am-9:30 am: squash presentation and Q&A
9:30 am-10:00 am: wrestling presentation and Q&A
10:00 am-10:45 am: vote on inclusion of new sport for 2020 and 2024 Olympics
I'll update this post and the comments as we hear more information.
