BASEBALL: IOWA VS. CINCINNATI (PREVIEW AND OPEN THREAD)

New, 67 comments

The 4-1 Hawkeyes take on the 1-6 Bearcats in Emerson, GA, as we continue to wait for winter to end.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

What We Missed: The Hawkeyes swept an abbreviated weekend trip to Texas on 02/20-02/21, beating Arkansas-Little Rock 3-1, and Missouri State 6-5. The Sunday game was cancelled due to weather. The trip brought Iowa's record to 4-1. Last year, Iowa jumped to a 9-1 start on the way to 30 wins.

The Opponent: Cincinnati's record stands at 1-6, but the six losses were all true road games at warm-climate schools (three at Mississippi State, and three at Santa Clara), so the Bearcats can hardly be written off on their record alone, although three of the six games were significant poundings (19-5, 16-7, and 11-3). The lone win came over fellow Midwestern outfit Miami(Ohio).

Venue: Perfect Game Park at Lake Point, Emerson, GA. Fully expect a great showing out of the Emerson I-Club.

Game Times: Friday 02/27 @ 3 P.M. CT; Saturday 02/28 @ 10 A.M. CT; and Sunday 03/01 @ 11 A.M. CT.

Coverage: Hawkeye All Access Radio ($, I believe), and HawkeyeSports.com Gametracker.

Pitching Probables:

IOWA CINCY
Tyler Peyton (1-0, 1.80 ERA) GAME 1 Andrew Zellner (R) (1-0, 1.35 ERA)
Blake Hickman (0-0, 2.45 ERA) GAME 2 Dalton Lehnen (L) (0-1, 16.88 ERA)
Calvin Mathews (1-0, 2.57 ERA) GAME 3 Doug Lowe II (L) (0-0, 0.00 ERA)

This will also be a series-long gamethread. Usual rules apply. Usually not a problem for the four of us in the baseball threads, but third series of the year is when it might start to get chippy.
