THE NFL COMBINE GOT STARTED YESTERDAY. Five Hawkeyes will participate in the four day event in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our good friends at NEPatriotsDraft.com are collecting data. Let's see how the first two Hawkeyes to test finished.

CJF HAD HIMSELF A DAY. Fiedorowicz's initial 40 time of 4.80s screams slow but the magic of numbers and the official 4.76s reads a lot better. Of those tested, he turned in the sixth fastest time on the day for tight ends. Jace Amaro, the highly thought of tight end from Texas Tech, turned in a 40 time just .02 seconds faster (4.74).
Where CJF excelled was the agility portion of the tests. He finished the day with the quickest 3-cone drill time and 20-yard shuttle. Still, despite the athletic ability, NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said of Fiedorowicz, "he's not going to be a vertical guy. He's short and intermediate and blocking in the NFL." Tight ends that are tackles that run a few routes in the League don't get drafted in the first two rounds. Mayock added, "I like Fiedorowicz in the red zone. He knows how to use his body." Tight ends that score touchdowns are valuable. Perhaps, we'll see CJF's stock move up after his performance.
ONE TEAM THAT MAY BE INTERESTED. Fiedorowicz was named a "big winner" by Patriots writer Doug Kyed. The Pats need a compliment to Rob Gronkowski and CJF may be it. Could the Pats take a chance of Fiedorowicz in round two?
CONOR BOFFELI ALSO HAD A GOOD DAY. Last week, I predicted he'd turn in Combine numbers similar to former Hawk Julian Vandervelde. Boffeli's 5.30s 40-yard dash time didn't come close to Vandervelde's 5.12s. His 5.30s was in the lower half of the group.
Boffeli, like CJF, performed well in the agility drills. He turned in a 7.44s 3-cone time and a 4.61s shuttle. Those numbers are in the upper half of the linemen group. His quickness combined with good technique will get him noticed by teams in need of an interior linemen that run a zone-blocking scheme in the League.
WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING.
Iowa's Boffeli was among the top 5 Ten Splits in the 40.
