Embry's commitment came as a bit of a surprise, and there are a couple of causes for concern here. For one, this weekend's visit to Iowa was Embry's first official visit to any school, and there's no word on whether he intends to make any other visits. There are also some big names, particularly Michigan and Ohio State, who could jump in late and change the calculus; as we saw with Delano Hill last year, the Wolverines are not above that and certainly have pull for a recruit from Detroit.
Well, Embry's visit went well, he never took another visit elsewhere, and Michigan and Ohio State stayed away. It's no certainty -- this is recruiting, after all -- but he could be a gargantuan recruit for the Hawkeyes. Iowa has a keen eye for defensive back talent, especially in Michigan (where Phil Parker is primary recruiter and has found guys like Desmond King in the weeds), and Embry's got all the signs of another under-recruited Rust Belt defensive back that Iowa turns into a draft pick in four years.
