IOWA 62, NOTRE DAME 68: MAYBE SOME OTHER TIME

OTHER STUFF IS GOING ON

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

While the Iowa fanbase was focused on the Iowa Football team going a perfect 12-0 the Iowa basketball team was focused on upsetting #17 Notre Dame. Unfortunately, Mike Brey and the Fighting Irish had a different narrative. Down 39-27 at half the Hawkeyes battled back under the leadership of Mike Gesell, who consistently kept Iowa in the game with his assists or jump shots.

Gesell, who had literally kept the Hawkeyes in the game until 7 minutes to go, could not spur the defense to shore up under the hoop, giving the Fighting Irish easy buckets to pull out, even when the Hawkeyes got close.  Down 53-54, the Hawkeyes needed a defensive stop and they simply couldn't get it, pushing the Irish to the line, who made majority of their free throws to solidify the 68-62 victory over Iowa.

The season is young,

Go Hawks.
