POLL WATCH: Iowa Remains Ranked in AP, Coaches Polls

How much did Iowa's runner-up finish at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament influence their poll standing? Not that much.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Iowa went 2-1 in last weekend's Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas, failing to claim the magic conch of power but still logging wins over Xavier and UTEP before falling to Villanova in OT in the title game. How much impact did those results have on Iowa's placement in the AP and USA Today Coaches Polls? Steady as she goes.

Iowa's runner-up finish at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament sees them go from #23 in the AP Poll to... #23 in the AP Poll. Exciting! Iowa-slayer (and, OK, Kansas-slayer) Villanova vaults from deep in the Others Receiving Votes category to #14. That likely isn't indicative of where Iowa would have ranked had they defeated Villanova in the B4A title game -- that win over Kansas was a huge feather in 'Nova's cap.

Meanwhile, in the Coaches Poll, Iowa's 2-1 efforts in the Bahamas see them go from #23 a week ago to #24 this week. Villanova jumps into the polls here as well, although only at #19. Tomorrow night's opponent, Notre Dame, sits near the bottom of the Others Receiving Votes category in the Coaches Poll as well.

Future non-conference opponent Iowa State is cooling their heels at 17th and 18th, respectively, in the AP and Coaches Polls, meaning that if Iowa takes care of business against Notre Dame tomorrow night, there's an excellent chance that Iowa and Iowa State will both be ranked when Iowa heads to Hilton Coliseum on Friday the 13th. Let the hype begin...
