Hope in the Nose Bleeds: Pyrrhic Victory.

Ding-dong, the wicked witch is dead.

Rejoice rejoice, finally Iowa fans got what they wanted. We'll only have to suffer Brian Ferentz for half a season more, and then we'll be home free. Finally, Iowa will have a good offense and we will truly dominate the B1G 10 west.

Right?

Something rubs me the wrong way about this. Don't get me wrong I'm happy to see Brian gone. I'd love for the Hawks to keep him on the coaching staff (God knows the o-line could use some help), but his stint as OC ending should be a wonderful thing for the Hawks. But, through this season, I think something else has become entirely apparent.

It's not just Brian. The offensive struggle cannot be entirely because of Brian. It all comes down to Kirk. Kirk has been running a rough and tumble ground-n-pound playbook since he started coaching and he hasn't changed it one bit, despite the rapid changes found in college football. We look at Iowa's strengths and we see defense and special teams, both of which are NOT touched by Kirk during games. The offense is what's horrible, and the offense is what Kirk leads.

While I'm happy to see Brian won't be returning, I'm still wary of Kirk Ferentz remaining as the head coach. I grew up with Kirk as the HC and I haven't known anyone else, which is both a blessing and a curse. I think 25 years is long enough. I hope Kirk hangs up his whistle at the end of this season, for our sake and for his. I wouldn't like to see him go, but I'd hate to see him stay.

That being said, I retract my previous statement. I don't hope Iowa loses the rest of their games. With Brian officially leaving, there is no reason to tank. Winning as many games as we can is a massive boost for not only the locker room, but all the seniors with NFL aspirations. Sure, Tory Taylor and Coop are sure draft-picks, but for players like Castro, McNamara, Schulte, LaChey, Ragaini and All, a winning record and a chance at finishing in the top 25 boosts their chances 10-fold. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Castro picking off Patrick Mahomes, or Ragaini catching touchdowns from Jared Goff alongside Big Jack Campball and Big Man Sam LaPorta?

As always, SWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARM!!!!!

PS: Drew Tate should be the head coach and Spencer Petras should be made QB coach thank you bye.
