59 Days Until Iowa Football: Griffin Liddle

A legacy of sorts on the defensive line

Syndication: HawkCentral Joseph Cress/Iowa City Press-Citizen via Imagn Content Services, LLC

Welcome back to the official countdown to kickoff! Each day through September 4th we’re highlighting a member of the Iowa football team whose number corresponds with the number of days remaining until football returns to Kinnick Stadium. You can find each of the previous players highlighted in the Countdown to Kickoff stream here. You can also find the full Iowa roster here.

Up next is #59, defensive lineman Griffin Liddle.

Griffin Liddle - Freshman
Bettendorf, IA (Bettendorf )
6’3”, 267 lbs
2021 Projection: Reserve DT

Liddle is about as legacy as it gets for this program. His father was a three-time letterwinner under Jim Zalesky with the wrestling program. He was a 3A HWT champion at Bettendorf, but sees a brighter future on the gridiron with a three-star ranking and top-40 placement at his position. Offers from Michigan State, Iowa State, Minnesota, and Nebraska gave him options, but Iowa was obviously the best.

And with the Hawkeyes needing all the help they can get on the interior, Liddle might just be able to breakthrough early on.

Still, it’s pretty rare for a teenager to break through at the position, and little was said of... Liddle in the spring when there were at least three defensive tackles sitting out of practice.

For now, we wait.
