Hawkeye Football: 2021 Countdown to Kickoff

We are officially 100 days from the return of Hawkeye football and with that comes our official countdown to kickoff. As we’ve done each offseason for the last several years, The Pants will be counting down the days until kickoff by running down the updated Iowa football roster.

Last year, of course, things got a bit wild. For starters, the countdown started and was then forced to stop when the season was thought cancelled. When we reopened things, we had some catching up to do, but with a schedule in limbo. This year will hopefully be a bit more smooth sailing with the official start date expected to remain unchanged. Not only that, we’re expecting to see fans back in the fans in those same 100 days, marking the first time in nearly two full years since non-family members have been allowed to soak up a game in Kinnick.

As we go, we’ll also be doing position previews and taking a look at Iowa’s opponents for this season. But each day, we will be highlighting the player on the Iowa roster whose number corresponds with the days remaining until the official start to the season. This year, that comes on Saturday, September 4th.

There will no doubt be players added this summer who will throw off our beautiful system. The incoming freshman class won’t be added to the roster until after they arrive in mid-June (with the exception of a handful of early enrollees who are already in town), for example, so we will have some makeup days throughout the summer. But by and large, this will be a straight line march from 99 days down to 1 day.

You can find each of those player profiles on the home page as they come up, but this will be your home for looking back to find a given player at a later time.
