It’s Week 2 of high school football and the majority of future Hawkeyes were on the field. Each week we will examine stats, future opponents, and highlight videos.
Note: Illinois and Minnesota plan to play high school football in the spring
Jeff Bowie, DE

Bowie and his West Branch teammates fell to West Liberty 7-20 on Friday. Bowie finished with 2.5 tackles and 1 TFL. On the season he has 6 tackles, 4 TFL, and 0.5 sack.
The West Branch Bears (1-1) will travel to Cascade (1-1) next week.
Brody Brecht, WR
Hometown: Ankeny, IA (Ankeny)

Ankeny dropped a close game with Waukee 17-21. Brecht had 2 catches for 27 yards on offense and recorded an interception on defense to stop a score.

Arland Bruce, WR

The Iowa High School Athletic Association is still ruling Bruce ineligible following his move from Kansas. The Bruce family is appealing to decision and hoping to play as soon as possible. Bruce plans to be a spring enrollee at the University of Iowa.
Connor Colby, OL

Colby and the Cougars gained 335 yards of offense, 239 of that on the ground, but fell to Cedar Rapids Washington 21-28.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy (1-1) was scheduled to play Cedar Rapids Jefferson (0-2), but is going miss this week due to a positive COVID-19 testing.
Cooper DeJean, ATH

Last week I ended DeJean’s writeup with “Our advanced condolences to their defensive coordinator for trying to come up with a way to slow down DeJean”. It was needed.
DeJean continued to shine as he went 25/52 with 368 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air. He has carried the ball 23 times for 93 yards and 2 touchdowns in route to OABCIGs 27-21 win over Spirit Lake. On defense, he accounted for 14 tackles.

DeJean’s season totals are 44/83 for 747 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. He also has 32 carries for 149 yards and 5 touchdowns. Defensively he leads the Falcons with 17 tackles (16 are solo).
On Friday OABCIG (2-0) will be at home against Missouri Valley (0-2).
Jaden Harrell, LB
Hometown: Urbandale, IA (Urbandale)
Height: 6’2”

In Week 2, Harrell was a force on both sides of the ball. He had 120 yards and 1 touchdown on 12 carries, while also recording 8.5 tackles and 0.5 TFL on defense as Urbandale defeated Ames 40-13. To date Harrell has 19 carries for 189 yards and 2 touchdowns. On defense he sits at 11.5 tackles and 0.5 TFL.

Keagan Johnson, WR
Hometown: Bellevue, NE (Bellevue West)

Keagan Johnson and his Bellevue West teammates opened their season on Friday against Bellevue East. It was a dominant performance as West won 55-0. Johnson had 4 catches for 65 yards and a touchdown. He also scored on a 1 yard touchdown carry. Johnson would have added a special teams touchdown on a punt return, but it was called back for an illegal block.
Bellevue West was scheduled to play Creighton Prep next week, but that game has been cancelled due to Creighton Prep quarantine of the football team after a player tested positive for COVID-19. They are currently working on finding a replacement.

Iowa commit Keagan Johnson had a nice season opener with 4 catches for 65 yards & 1 TD, a 1 yard rushing TD, plus a 70 yard punt return for a TD that was called back due to penalty.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights lost in Week 2 against Hudson 28-38. The offense was not the issue for the Bees as Labas had over 300 yards through the air and over 50 yards on the ground. He scored a touchdown both ways as well.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights (1-1) will travel to North Royalton next week.
Griffin Liddle, DT

Roland-Story took their second loss of the season to Nevada by a 6-63 score. Twedt finished the game with 8 carries for 29 yards and 1 reception for 2 yards. He also had 2 tackles on defense. Twedt’s time was limited with an ankle injury during the game.
His season totals are 19 carries for 46 yards on offense and 9.5 tackles on defense.
