It’s Week 5 of high school football and the majority of future Hawkeyes were on the field. Each week we will examine stats, future opponents, and highlight videos.
Note: Last week, Minnesota announced a reversal in a previous decision and will now play fall football. Practices were allowed to begin September 28th.
Illinois still plans to play high school football in the spring.
Jeff Bowie, DE
Hometown: West Branch, IA (West Branch)
Height: 6’5”

Bowie finished with 1.5 tackles and 1 TFL as West Branch defeated Maquoketa Valley 50-14. On the season, Bowie has 10.5 tackles, 5.5 TFL, and 1 sack.
The West Branch Bears (3-2) next game is at Durant (3-1).
Brody Brecht, WR
Hometown: Ankeny, IA (Ankeny)
Height: 6’4”

Ankeny picked up a big win at Valley 35-10 this week. Brecht was the best player on the field as he hauled in 8 receptions for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns.
On the season Brecht has 20 catches, 308 yards, and 7 touchdowns. He has 1 interception on defense and a 57 yards punt return for a touchdown.
Next week Ankeny (4-1) hosts Johnston (3-2).
Arland Bruce, WR
Hometown: Ankeny, IA (Ankeny) *Previously Olathe, KS (Olathe North)

The Iowa High School Athletic Association is still ruling Bruce ineligible following his move from Kansas. The Bruce family has tried to appeal to decision.. Bruce plans to be a spring enrollee at the University of Iowa.
Connor Colby, OL

Cedar Rapids Kennedy fell to Dubuque Hempstead 20-38 this week. The Cougars averaged 6.5 yards per carry on 36 carries but it was not enough.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy (1-2) faces off against Waterloo West this week (3-2).
Cooper DeJean, ATH
Hometown: Ida Grove, IA (OABCIG)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 198

DeJean and OABCIG cruised to another commanding win this week over MVAOCOU 63-14. He finished with 176 yards passing and 3 touchdowns on 8 of 9 passes. He also carried the ball twice for 44 yards, and had 0.5 tackle on defense as the Falcons jumped up 35-0 after one quarter. DeJean scored on a 42 yard punt return as well.
DeJean’s season totals are 70/122 for 1460 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. He also has 43 carries for 348 yards and 7 touchdowns. Defensively he leads the Falcons with 23 tackles (20 are solo). He has scored 2 special teams touchdowns with a kick return and punt return for a touchdown.
On Friday OABCIG (5-0) has a showdown with another top 5 ranked team as they travel to Underwood (5-0).
Jaden Harrell, LB
Hometown: Urbandale, IA (Urbandale)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 220

Urbandale improved to 5-0 with a 42-28 victory over Fort Dodge. Harrell carried the ball 9 times for 28 yards and a touchdown. Defensively he recorded 5 tackles and 2 TFL and 2 sacks.
Through 5 games Harrell has 45 carries for 310 yards and 5 touchdowns. He’s secured 5 catches for 32 yards out of the backfield. The future linebacker totals 28.5 tackles, 3.5 TFL, and 2 sacks on defense. Harrell contributes to special teams as well as Urbandale’s punter.
Next week the J-Hawks are off and will conclude their regular season on October 9th at Waukee.
Keagan Johnson, WR
Hometown: Bellevue, NE (Bellevue West)
Height: 6’1”

Bellevue West took down Kearney 49-14 and Johnson had his third big night of the year. The standout wide receiver hauled in 8 receptions for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns. As a Wildcat quarterback, Johnson carried the ball twice for 6 yards and 2 touchdowns.
On the season Johnson has 19 receptions for 341 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also has 3 rushing touchdowns. Bellevue West (3-0) is scheduled to take on Millard West (1-3) this week.
Joey Labas, QB
Hometown: Broadview Heights, OH (Brecksville-Broadview Heights)
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 190

Brecksville-Broadview Heights improved to 4-1 on the season following their 15-13 win over Stow-Munroe Falls. In a defensive battle, Labas was 14/23 passing for 143 yards and threw 1 touchdown pass.
Labas has totaled 1103 yards and 7 touchdowns on 82-132 passing.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights (4-1) hosts Wadsworth next week.
Griffin Liddle, DT
Hometown: Bettendorf, IA (Bettendorf)
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 275

Bettendorf dropped a game to undefeated Pleasant Valley 6-23. Liddle had 2 tackles on the night.
His season totals are 13.5 tackles with 6.5 TFL.
Bettendorf (2-2) travels to Muscatine (2-3) next Friday.
Max Llewellyn, DE
Hometown: Urbandale, IA (Urbandale)
Height: 6’5”

Llewellyn had 1 receptions on offense for 6 yards, but on defense Llewellyn was dominant with 4.5 tackles, 2 TFL, and 2 sacks. He recovered a fumble as well.
Llewellyn now has 12 catches for 266 yards and 2 touchdown on offense to go along with his 15.5 tackles, 8.5 TFL, and 4 sacks on defense.
Jordan Oladokun, DB
Hometown: Tampa, FL (Gaither)
Height: 5’11”

Oladokun and Gaither (2-0) were off this week. On the season Oladokun 9 receptions, 114 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Defensively he has 1 tackle and 1 PBU as a lockdown corner.

Beau Stephens, OL

Minnesota recently reversed their decision to play football in the spring. Eden Praire’s first game is scheduled for October 16th against Shakopee.
Zach Twedt, ATH
Hometown: Story City, IA (Roland-Story)
Height: 6’3”

Twedt is out for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury. He finished the season with 29 carries for 103 yards and 2 receptions for 3 yards on offense. He ended up recording 14 tackles on defense.
Roland-Story (0-4) was off last week but plays Hampton-Dumont-CAL (2-3) on Friday.
