Week 1 of high school football kicked off and several future Hawkeyes began their senior season. Each week we will examine stats, future opponents, and highlight videos.

Brody Brecht, WR
Hometown: Ankeny, IA (Ankeny)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 200
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3
The multi-sport standout started his season with 3 receptions for 55 yards and 2 touchdowns as Ankeny beat Ankeny Centennial 48-6. Brecht has outstanding size and body control. Unless you decide to double him each play, I’m not sure how teams are going to keep him out of the end zone during the game.
Next week Ankeny (1-0) will travel to Waukee (0-1).
Bauer->Brecht. Get used to hearing that. @JaseBauer tosses 4 TDs in @Ankeny_Hawks opening rout of Centennial. 2 of those to future #Iowa WR @brody_brecht. Full highlights at 10:45 on @weareiowa5news pic.twitter.com/BXkJyawnr3

Arland Bruce, WR
Hometown: Ankeny, IA (Ankeny) *Previously Olathe, KS (Olathe North)
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 192
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3
On Friday morning, Bruce found out that the Iowa High School Athletic Association had ruled him ineligible to play. Bruce and his mother moved from Kansas to Iowa in August. The Bruce family has hired a lawyer and is appealing the decision.
Bruce went after the IHSAA on Twitter and seems to have a pretty good argument for being allowed to play. You would imagine that during a pandemic, those in charge would be a little more understanding. Not only should they be understanding, but apparently they would not even return contact with Bruce or the attorney on Friday.
Met all requirements to be able to play this season and was ruled ineligible by the @IHSAA on GAMEDAY !! We are fighting it and this will not be the end...a lot of explaining to be done by the so called “leaders”!!! @MatthewBain_ @ElginRucker @DMRegister @phillyboy14

Connor Colby, OL
Hometown: Cedar Rapids, IA (Kennedy)

Weight: 275
Stars: 247 Sports - 4 / Rivals - 4
Colby helped the Cougars gain 459 yards of offense, 376 on the ground, as they earned a 35-34 overtime victory over Prairie. It appears he is able to move defensive lineman around like he does fallen trees.
When you lose every tree in your yard...you call in the big guns! Thanks to @max_white21 and @ConnorColby77 for putting in work. @CRKFootball @CRCougars pic.twitter.com/iVNrZVQnny

Next Friday, Cedar Rapids Kennedy (1-0) will play against Cedar Rapids Washington (1-0).
Cooper DeJean, ATH
Hometown: Ida Grove, IA (OABCIG)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 198
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3
DeJean is a defensive back recruit for Iowa, but at OABCIG he is the do-it-all quarterback. DeJean was 19-31 passing for 379 yards and 3 touchdowns this week against Ridge View. He also had 9 carries for 56 yards with 3 touchdowns on the ground. Defensively he helped the Falcons pitch a shutout, 48-0, while recording 3 tackles.
On Friday OABCIG (1-0) will be at home against Spirit Lake (0-1). Our advanced condolences to their defensive coordinator for trying to come up with a way to slow down DeJean.
Jaden Harrell, LB
Hometown: Urbandale, IA (Urbandale)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 220
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3
Harrell and his Urbandale teammates picked up a 50-34 victory over Johnston in Week 1. He recorded 3 tackles on defense and also contributed with 7 carries, 69 yards, and a touchdown on the ground. In Week 2, the the J-Hawks (1-0) will travel to Ames (0-1).

Keagan Johnson, WR
Hometown: Bellevue, NE (Bellevue West)
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 188
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Joey Labas, QB

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 2
After a thunderstorm delayed kickoff, Labas completed 11 of his 22 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown in their 35-21 victory over Aurora. Labas also gained 15 yards on the ground for the Bees and even had a reception for a two-point conversion. His size really stands out on film. On the second play from the video below, he easily flicks the ball downfield without needing to get his feet or body into prime position.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights (1-0) will be at home to play agianst Hudson next week.
Griffin Liddle, DT
Hometown: Bettendorf, IA (Bettendorf)
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 275
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3
Liddle recorded 4 tackles, with 3 of as TFL, but it wasn’t enough as Bettendorf fell to Washington 10-19. The Bulldogs (0-1) have a bye this week and then look to bounce back at home when they host Davenport Central (0-1).
Max Llewellyn, DE
Hometown: Urbandale, IA (Urbandale)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 230
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3
As mentioned earlier, Urbandale got the Week 1 victory and Llewellyn stood out on both sides of the ball. Defensively he accounted for 5 tackles, 4 TFL, and 2 sacks. On offense, he led the J-Hawks through the air with 4 receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Llewellyn is a rangy player who displays an excellent burst for someone of his size. He’s a player I could see rising up the recruiting rankings as the season progresses.

Height: 5’11”
Weight: 180
Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3
