Iowa Football Recruiting: Class of 2021 Commitments Week 3 Recap

Could another bowl game defensive MVP come from this group?

It’s Week 3 of high school football and the majority of future Hawkeyes were on the field. Each week we will examine stats, future opponents, and highlight videos.

Note: Illinois and Minnesota plan to play high school football in the spring


Jeff Bowie, DE

Hometown: West Branch, IA (West Branch)

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 242

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Bowie finished with 1.5 tackles as West Branch’s late rally fell short to Cascade 14-21. On the season, Bowie has 7.5 tackles, 4.0 TFL, and 0.5 sack.

The West Branch Bears (1-2) will travel to Wilton (1-2) on Friday.

Brody Brecht, WR

Hometown: Ankeny, IA (Ankeny)

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 200

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Ankeny got back on track against Fort Dodge this week winning 52-18. Brecht had 5 receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown, but the focus was on the ground for the Hawks as three different players went for over 100 yards rushing.

On the season Brecht has 10 catches, 124 yards, and 3 touchdowns. He has 1 interception on defense.

Next week Ankeny (2-1) plays Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson (0-2) on Friday.

Arland Bruce, WR

Hometown: Ankeny, IA (Ankeny) *Previously Olathe, KS (Olathe North)

Height: 5’10”

Weight: 192

The Iowa High School Athletic Association is still ruling Bruce ineligible following his move from Kansas. The Bruce family is appealing to decision and hoping to play as soon as possible. Bruce plans to be a spring enrollee at the University of Iowa.

Connor Colby, OL

Hometown: Cedar Rapids, IA (Kennedy)

Height: 6’6”

Weight: 275

Stars: 247 Sports - 4 / Rivals - 4

Cedar Rapids Kennedy (1-1) was scheduled to play Dubuque Senior (1-2), but it is currently listed as postponed. Their next scheduled game is September 25th at Dubuque Hempstead.

Cooper DeJean, ATH

Hometown: Ida Grove, IA (OABCIG)

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 198

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

In only two quarters of work, DeJean continued to put up video game stats as OABCIG rolled Missouri Valley 54-0. He finished with 274 yards passing with 3 touchdowns on 10 of 17 passes. He also scored a touchdown on one of his 5 carries that totaled 74 yards, and had 1.5 tackles on defense.

DeJean’s season totals are 54/100 for 1021 yards, 8 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. He also has 37 carries for 223 yards and 6 touchdowns. Defensively he leads the Falcons with 18.5 tackles (17 are solo).

On Friday OABCIG (3-0) will be at home against East Sac County (0-3)

Jaden Harrell, LB

Hometown: Urbandale, IA (Urbandale)

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 220

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

It was another two-way performance for Harrell as he carried the ball 6 times for 34 yards and a touchdown. He also had 4 yards on 3 receptions. Defensively he recorded 4 tackles as he and his J-Hawk teammates pitched a shutout in their 34-0 victory over Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln.

Through 3 games Harrell has 25 carries for 223 yards and 3 touchdowns. He’s secured 4 catches for 13 yards out of the backfield. The future linebacker totals 15.5 tackles and 0.5 TFL on defense. Harrell contributes to special teams as well as Urbandale’s punter.

In Week 4, the the J-Hawks (3-0) will travel to Indianola (1-2).

Keagan Johnson, WR

Hometown: Bellevue, NE (Bellevue West)

Height: 6’1”

Weight: 188

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Bellevue West had their game cancelled due to a positive COVID-19 test by the opponent.

On the season Johnson has 4 receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown. Bellevue West (1-0) is scheduled to take on Millard South this week.

Joey Labas, QB

Hometown: Broadview Heights, OH (Brecksville-Broadview Heights)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 190

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 2

Brecksville-Broadview Heights improved to 2-1 on the season following their 42-28 win over North Royalton. Labas put up big numbers again as he went 19-26 for 350 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Labas has totaled 795 yards and 5 touchdowns on 56-86 passing. He also has not thrown an interception.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights (2-1) will travel to face the Barberton Magics (0-3) next week.

Griffin Liddle, DT

Hometown: Bettendorf, IA (Bettendorf)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 275

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Bettendorf picked up their first win of the season defeating Davenport Central 36-0. Liddle had 3.5 tackles and 1.5 TFL.

His season totals are 7.5 tackles with 4.5 TFL.

Bettendorf (1-1) plays again on Friday hosting Davenport North (2-0).

Max Llewellyn, DE

Hometown: Urbandale, IA (Urbandale)

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 230

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Llewellyn only had one reception on offense but he made the most of it racing 60 yards for the touchdown. On defense Llewellyn remained active with 4.5 tackles and 2.5 TFL

Llewellyn now has 8 catches for 228 yards and 2 touchdown on offense to go along with his 9.5 tackles, 6.5 TFL, and 2 sacks on defense.

Jordan Oladokun, DB

Hometown: Tampa, FL (Gaither)

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 180

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Gaither opened their season beating Hillsborough 34-6. Oladokun did it all scoring 2 touchdowns on 4 receptions for 36 yards. Locking down his position, he tallied 1 tackle. Oladokun was also a punt and kickoff returner.

Gaither (1-0) looks to remain undefeated this week against Tampa Bay Tech (1-0) and their high powered offense on Thursday.

Beau Stephens, OL

Hometown: Blue Springs, MO (Blue Springs)

Height: 6’6”

Weight: 305

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Stephens and the Blue Springs offense and defense got it going winning 42-0 to get their first win on the season.

They will play Park Hill (1-2) this week.

Zach Twedt, ATH

Hometown: Story City, IA (Roland-Story)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 225

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Roland-Story fell to 0-3 following their loss to Forest City, but the news got worse as Twedt dislocated his shoulder late in the game ending his season.

Prior to the injury, Twedt had 10 carries for 57 yards and 1 reception for 3 yards. On defense he had recorded 4.5 tackles.

His season will end with are 29 carries for 103 yards and 2 receptions for 3 yards on offense. His ended up recording 14 tackles on defense.

Roland-Story (0-3) continues their season without Twedt next week against West Marshall (2-1).
