60 Days Until Hawkeye Football: Noah Fenske

The redshirt freshman from Iowa is still a season or two away

The next player in the countdown to kickoff is a redshirt freshman from in-state.

Noah Fenske - RS Freshman
New Hampton, IA (New Hampton)
6’4”, 300 lbs
2019 Projection: Reserve offensive lineman

The 2019 recruit chose Iowa over offers from South Dakota State and North Dakota per 247, as one of the last of Reese Morgan’s homegrown recruits. The lineman shows real athleticism on both sides of the ball, especially when he is getting after ball carriers:

He also played basketball and finished third in state shot put his junior year so he has that multi-sport pedigree the Iowa staff loves.

Though he’s projected as an offensive lineman since his commitment, there’s something about watching him break through the line and get to ball carriers which makes me think he might move back to the defensive line.

As it stands, the Hawks look to be in pretty good shape along the offensive line with the amount of depth they’ve built over the last couple years so Fenske’s services are unlikely to come into play in 2020. With Alaric Jackson and Coy Cronk departing after next season, though, there will be spaces to fill in ‘21.

I’d suspect he gets his feet wet in garbage time or special teams to ease him into playing time whenever the spots become available.
