52 (?) Days Until Hawkeye Football: Asher Fahey

A redshirt is probably in the cards for this walk-on offensive lineman

NCAA Football: Penn State at Iowa Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

Asher Fahey - Freshman
Waukon, IA (Waukon)
6’5”, 270 lbs
2020 Projection: Reserve/redshirt offensive lineman

Asher Fahey probably won’t see much — if any — playing time in 2020, whether or not there’s a college football season. The walk-on from Waukon (hah) committed to the Hawkeyes back in February after only receiving interested from the Hawkeyes and Northern Iowa, according to HawkeyeReport.

Fahey told HawkeyeReport that the coaches have not shared with him what position they have in mind for him, but that he’s willing to try any position. I’m guessing he’ll have time to figure that out, as he’s a bit undersized currently for an offensive lineman at only 270 (up from 265) earlier in the year.

Let’s check out his film:

Fahey was 1st team All-State in his senior season, and the offensive line MVP for 2A District 4. Watching the tape, it’s clear that Fahey is a solid, physical blocker who can create nice holes for his offense. Certainly someone the Hawks want in the stable, but the talent gap between 2A high school football and Division 1 Big Ten football is large.

It will probably be a bit of time before we see Fahey hit the field, but there’s certainly a chance that we know his name in a few years after some time in the weight room and extended exposure to the program — and the physicality of Big Ten football.
