Our next Hawkeye redshirted last year but has made enough of a mark on his teammates to be named to the Iowa Leadership Group.
For past 81s, the only right answer is Tony Moeaki:
If only he weren’t so injured!
Desmond Hutson - RS Freshman
Rayton, MO (Raytown)
6’3”, 210 lbs
2020 Projection: Reserve wide receiver
Hutson committed to the Iowa ahead of the 2019 season. At the time of his commitment, the Hawks were his only D-1 offer, which is a trajectory which resembles Brandon Smith’s.
In his senior year, he had 47 receptions for 729 yards and eight touchdowns, good for a 15.5 yards per carry.
Despite being on the bigger side for a wide receiver, he shows plenty of speed in his highlights. He spends most of his time on lined up outside but shows a willingness to fight through tackles.
Iowa’s wide receiver room is stacked but Hutson did find his way into garbage time of a couple games last year which allowed him to keep his redshirt. He certainly has the prototypical size for wide receivers Iowa likes on the outside but it still might be a year before he sees any consistent playing time.
