BHGP Presents March Madness: Midwest and East Sweet 16

Iowa is here to make history

NCAA Basketball: Purdue at Iowa Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

With the powers that be officially cancelling Christmas and the NCAA Tournament, we’re taking matters into our own hands. This will not stand, you know, this aggression will not stand, man!

So we’re running our own damn tournament. Using the final bracketology put together by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, we’ve released a 2020 NCAA Tournament bracket. Winners of each game are voted on by you, the people. The results will be posted along a similar timeline to what would have been the original tournament. The schedule is as follows:

Sunday March 15: First Four

Monday March 16: Midwest Region

Tuesday March 17: East Region

Wednesday March 18: West Region

Thursday March 19: South Region

Friday March 20: Recap special (cancelled due to coronavirus)

Monday March 23: Round of 32 for Midwest and East

Tuesday March 24: Round of 32 for West and South

Wednesday March 25: Sweet 16 for Midwest and East

Thursday March 26: Sweet 16 for Midwest and East

Friday March 27: Recap Special

Monday March 30: Elite 8

Tuesday March 31: Final Four

Wednesday April 1: The Finals

Thursday April 2: Champion is crowned/One Shining Social Media Moment

We’ve finally entered the Sweet 16 and we all now have the opportunity to make some people metaphorically pay for their #TAEKS:

I know it’s silly and I should be above any of this, but voting for Maryland is going to make me feel better, even if it’s for three total seconds. Yes, that’s where we are in the world right now. But after sitting locked inside for the better part of a week now, I’ll take three seconds of happiness when I can get them. And making sure Dayton gets less than 7-total votes is now the only thing that’s important to me right now.

I don’t know anymore. This is #CoronaLyfe and ish happens, ya know?

Outside of crushing Dayton, Iowa, led by the BHGP Player of the Year Luka Garza will be going up against #2 Kentucky, Wisconsin takes on #1 Kansas and #6 Penn State (!!!!) is trying to make a push past #2 Florida State. There is a lot of Big Ten love on this blog (deservedly so), and I 100% support it. The Iowa/Wisconsin Maryland/Penn State Elite 8 on the Midwest and East side is going to be fun, even if it’s a hypothetical matchup that I only get to think about for a minute or two.

But before we get to those new polls, let’s take a look at the West and South’s Round of 32 results:

  • #1 Gonzaga handled #8 LSU, 94-11
  • #5 Michigan upsets #4 Oregon, 60-47
  • #3 Seton Hall gives the Big Ten their first loss of the Tournament, beating Indiana, 77-31
  • #2 San Diego State takes care of business against #10 Texas Tech
  • #1 Baylor ends the dream season for #9 Rutgers, 68-40
  • #5 Ohio State upsets #4 Louisville, 68-38
  • #3 Michigan State demolishes #11 Cincinnati, 98-8
  • #2 Creighton takes care of Iowa’s former nemesis #7 Illinois, 59-52
