With the powers that be officially cancelling Christmas and the NCAA Tournament, we’re taking matters into our own hands. This will not stand, you know, this aggression will not stand, man!
So we’re running our own damn tournament. Using the final bracketology put together by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, we’ve released a 2020 NCAA Tournament bracket. Winners of each game are voted on by you, the people. The results will be posted along a similar timeline to what would have been the original tournament. The schedule is as follows:
Sunday March 15: First Four
Monday March 16: Midwest Region
Tuesday March 17: East Region
Wednesday March 18: West Region
Thursday March 19: South Region
Friday March 20: Recap special (cancelled due to coronavirus)
Monday March 23: Round of 32 for Midwest and East
Tuesday March 24: Round of 32 for West and South
Wednesday March 25: Sweet 16 for Midwest and East
Thursday March 26: Sweet 16 for Midwest and East
Friday March 27: Recap Special
Monday March 30: Elite 8
Tuesday March 31: Final Four
Wednesday April 1: The Finals
Thursday April 2: Champion is crowned/One Shining Social Media Moment
It may only be Tuesday but round two of the BHGP NCAA Tournament is well underway. Now, you know what they say: all good things come to those who wait. And while this may not actually be good, you waited. Or maybe you didn’t, but either way, we’ve got results from Midwest and East Regions in the round of 32.
As we’ve seen throughout the tournament thus far, it was pretty much chalk in these two regions with a trip to the Sweet Sixteen on the line. In total, there were only two upsets. Both came from 6 seeds over 3 seeds. Both came from Big Ten teams.
- #1 Kansas handled #9 Marquette 110-29
- #4 Wisconsin took down #5 Auburn, 89-49
- #6 Iowa throttled #3 Duke, 129-17
- #2 Kentucky blew out #10 Arizona State, 108-30
- #1 Dayton handled #9 Florida, 81-55
- #4 Maryland stomped #5 Butler, 121-14
- #6 Penn State knocked off #3 Villanova 70-63
- #2 Florida State beat up on #10 Utah State 104-30
As mentioned, the two upsets in this group came from Big Ten teams with Penn State edging Villanova and your Iowa Hawkeyes absolutely demolishing Duke. That gives Iowa their first trip to the Sweet Sixteen in more than two decades and I can’t think of a better team to take down on the way. The win sets up a showdown between the Hawkeyes and #2 seed Kentucky for a chance at Iowa’s first Elite Eight appearance since 1987.
Also of note, Hawkeye fans continue to vote Dayton forward despite the blatant disrespect the national media is showing Iowa by propping Obi Toppin up over Luka Garza based solely on the merits of his team. Personally, I’d take the Flyers down a notch or two with an early exit in a fake tournament, but you do you Hawkeye fans. You do you.
Next up, it’s time to vote for your winners in the South and West regions. There are some more really great matchups here and some more chances to snub very deserving fanbases. Get out the vote, you got nothing better to do.
