I still can’t get over the fact that we have no March Madness. I should be sitting on my couch binge-watching basketball.
Luckily, SB Nation decided it would create its own tournament. No, you can’t watch these games. But, you can vote to determine which team wins.
Iowa is a 5 seed in SB Nation’s March Madness bracket — pretty comparable to where the Hawkeyes would have landed in the real dance.
Iowa enters the round of 32 fresh off a win over Liberty in its opening game. The Hawkeyes commanded a convincing 74% of the votes.

There are no stats from these games, but I’d predict Luka Garza to go off for his usual 20+ points, 10+ rebounds. I don’t think Liberty would hang around long with Garza and the rest of the Hawkeye offense.
But now, Iowa faces Oregon in the Round of 32. The Ducks enter this week following a win over Belmont, taking 84% of the votes. Should Iowa win, it’ll face the winner of 1-seed Gonzaga and 9-seed Oklahoma (probably Gonzaga).
Some notes about SB Nation’s NCAA Tournament:
- Gonzaga, Kansas, Baylor, and Dayton are the No. 1 seeds
- Northern Iowa did NOT make the tournament
- We had five upsets in the first round. 9-seed Oklahoma beat 8-seed Colorado, 11-seed Marquette beat 6-seed BYU, 10-seed Texas Tech beat 7-seed LSU, 9-seed Arizona State beat 8-seed Houston, and 9-seed Florida beat 8-seed Arizona
So, go out and vote in SB Nation’s tournament, both for Iowa (if you think the Hawkeyes will win) and all the other matchups.
If you’ve signed up for FanPulse, you should be good — the survey for voting should have already been sent your way. If you aren’t signed up, here’s the link to do so.
