What started off as a complete dumpster fire seems to have been at least partially mitigated by the usual suspects. The Hawkeyes fell behind 14-0 early as Spencer Petras continued to struggle mightily. His counterpart, Brandon Peters, was just the opposite, looking crisp on the first two scoring drives for the Illini.
But Iowa has scored on its last three possessions to end the half and cut the 14-point deficit to just one as Illinois leads 14-13 heading to the second half. Can Iowa build on that momentum to put some more points on the board? Can the defense hunker down and hold an Illinois rushing attack that looked superior to Iowa’s early on? Can Spencer Petras complete just one pass to a wide open receiver more than 20 yards downfield? We’re about to find out.
