College Football Championship Week Viewing Guide

The Hawkeyes aren’t on the gridiron today, but there’s still plenty to watch.

NCAA Football: Big Ten Championship-Ohio State vs Wisconsin
Will Ohio State be holding up another trophy today? Probably.
Thomas J. Russo-USA TODAY Sports

Happy Championship Saturday Hawkeye fans. It’s a bittersweet day for Iowa. While the Hawkeyes were scheduled to play host to Michigan at 7pm CT today, that has been called off after the COVID-19 issues at Michigan have been prolonged. However, we learned on Friday afternoon that Iowa is having their own issues in that head coach Kirk Ferentz has tested positive.

So, no Iowa football today. However, the Hawkeyes are set to take on top-ranked Gonzaga on the hardwood at 11am CT. Be sure to tune in to that on CBS.

When Iowa hoops wraps up or if the Hawkeyes get out to a big early lead (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) and you need something to turn to, there’s some quality football this weekend given it is Championship Week.

It’s still 2020 which means things are still really weird. That is to say the Big Ten, SEC and ACC are all playing title games today, but the first two are also playing additional conference games. Meanwhile, the Pac-12 is just playing regular games. And then there’s a slew of cancelled games making the docket much smaller than originally planned.

Here’s a look at what’s in store today and where to find every game.

Morning Slate

The sporting gods have done us dirty again here. The game most Hawkeye fans likely care most about is the Big Ten Championship and it of course coincides with tip time for Iowa hoops. At 11am, #14 Northwestern and #4 Ohio State will face off in Indianapolis. That’s on FOX.

Elsewhere, the Big 12 Championship Game features #6 Iowa State (I’ll leave the discussion on 2-loss teams like ISU and Florida being in legitimate position to make the playoff if Northwestern pulls of the upset because it seems unlikely, but as fans of a team that ran the table in 2015 and and listened to the critics the whole way it’s frankly absurd to see the current rankings) and #10 Oklahoma. That one’s on ABC.

And in non-championship action, ESPN has #5 Texas A&M ensuring they get one more win for their resume by traveling to Tennessee.

Afternoon Slate

Things get going right away in the afternoon with a 12:30 kick for Washington State and Utah. That’s on FS1.

At 2pm CT, you’ve got Air Force at Navy on CBS Sports Network. Then at 2:30 the SEC Network has a pair of game split between alternate channels. Ole Miss is at LSU while Missouri travels to Mississippi State.

The ACC Championship Game kicks off at 3pm CT on ABC. That features #3 Clemson vs. #2 Notre Dame. At the same time, the BTN is airing Minnesota at Wisconsin. And then at 3:15, you’ve got Boise State vs. #24 San Jose State on FOX in the Mountain West title game.

The afternoon slate wraps up with Illinois at Penn State on FS1. That’s a 4:30pm kick.

Evening Slate

The evening slate gets going with a 6pm kick featuring Stanford at UCLA. That’s on ESPN. Then at 7, you’ve got the SEC Championship Game on CBS. That features #1 Alabama vs. #7 Florida. On ABC, #23 Tulsa takes on #9 Cincinnati for the AAC Championship game.

And things wrap up with just one late game. That’s Arizona State at Oregon State on ESPN. That kicks off at 9:30pm CT.

Here’s a look at all the day’s games, including channel listings for each.
