Iowa Football Recruiting: Class of 2021 Commitments Week 12 Recap

Ankeny and OABCIG will compete for state titles this week

It’s Week 12 of high school football and we are in the Playoffs in most states. Each week we will examine stats, future opponents, and highlight videos.

Note: After originally canceling their fall season, Minnesota reversed the decision and is now playing.

Illinois still plans to play high school football in the spring.


Jeff Bowie, DE

Hometown: West Branch, IA (West Branch)

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 242

Bowie finished the season with 20.5 tackles, 11 TFL, and 4 sacks.

Brody Brecht, WR

Hometown: Ankeny, IA (Ankeny)

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 200

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Ankeny held on in a thrilling game at the UNI Dome defeating Dowling (8-2) 31-24. Brecht had 2 receptions for 14 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the ball once for a 6 yard score.

On the season Brecht has 41 catches, 596 yards, and 12 touchdowns. Brecht has carried the ball twice for 1 yard and a touchdown. He has 1 interception on defense and a 57 yards punt return for a touchdown.

This week Ankeny (10-1) will face Southeast Polk (10-0) for a state championship.

Arland Bruce, WR

Hometown: Ankeny, IA (Ankeny) *Previously Olathe, KS (Olathe North)

Height: 5’10”

Weight: 192

Bruce had a game clinching interception in the end zone to push Ankeny on to the title game. He had 12 carries for 87 yards on the ground. Bruce also collected 2 catches for 46 yards.

In six games, he has 67 carries for 569 yards and 6 touchdowns on the ground. Through the air he has secured 23 catches for 393 yards and 4 touchdowns. On special teams he has 3 kick returns for 51 yards and 4 punt returns for 23 yards. He has one interception on very limited defensive snaps.

Connor Colby, OL

Hometown: Cedar Rapids, IA (Kennedy)

Height: 6’6”

Weight: 275

Cedar Rapids Kennedy finished the season with a final record of 4-4.

Cooper DeJean, ATH

Hometown: Ida Grove, IA (OABCIG)

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 198

DeJean’s dominance continued with a 43-21 win over Sigourney Keota (10-1). Through the air DeJean had 5 touchdowns and 411 yards on 21-34 passing. He also rushed for one touchdown with his 9 carries totaling 73 yards. He also recorded an interception and 7 tackles on defense.

DeJean’s season totals are 185/304 for 3129 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. He also has 116 carries for 1162 yards and 22 touchdowns. Defensively he has accounted for 46.5 tackles (40 are solo) and 3 interceptions. He has scored 3 special teams touchdowns with a kick return and two punt returns for a touchdown.

On Saturday OABCIG (11-0) will take on Van Meter (11-0) with the state title on the line.

Jaden Harrell, LB

Hometown: Urbandale, IA (Urbandale)

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 220

Urbandale finished their season at 6-2.

Harrell had 58 carries for 381 yards and 5 touchdowns. He’s secured 8 catches for 65 yards out of the backfield. The future linebacker totals 45.5 tackles, 5.5 TFL, and 2 sacks on defense. Harrell contributes to special teams as well as Urbandale’s punter.

Keagan Johnson, WR

Hometown: Bellevue, NE (Bellevue West)

Height: 6’1”

Weight: 188

Bellevue West end their season 6-1. On the season Johnson had 51 receptions for 935 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also had 28 carries for 170 yards and 7 rushing touchdowns. Through the air he went 3-4 for 29 yards and 2 touchdowns as a Wildcat quarterback.

Joey Labas, QB

Hometown: Broadview Heights, OH (Brecksville-Broadview Heights)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 190

Brecksville-Broadview Heights finished their season 7-2.

Labas totaled 2349 yards and 16 touchdowns on 167-246 passing. On the ground he carried the ball 76 times for 190 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Griffin Liddle, DT

Hometown: Bettendorf, IA (Bettendorf)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 275

Bettendorf finished their season at 5-3

His season totals were 18 tackles with 7 TFL and 0.5 sack.

Max Llewellyn, DE

Urbandale finished their season at 6-2.

Llewellyn finished with 13 catches for 278 yards and 2 touchdown on offense to go along with his 28 tackles, 13 TFL, and 5.5 sacks on defense.

Beau Stephens, OL

On the season, Stephens had 25 tackles with 9 TFL on defense and anchors the offensive line as well.

The Wildcats finish their season 5-6.

Justice Sullivan, LB

Hometown: Eden Praire, MN (Eden Praire)

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 225

Stars: 247 Sports - 4 / Rivals - 4

Eden Praire took down St Michael-Albertsville (5-1) 24-14. Sullivan finished with 2 tackles.

Eden Praire (6-0) has a bye week before postseason play.

Zach Twedt, ATH

Hometown: Story City, IA (Roland-Story)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 225

Twedt missed a portion of the season due to a shoulder injury. He finished the season with 29 carries for 103 yards and 2 receptions for 3 yards on offense. He ended up recording 14 tackles on defense.
