For those of you who may not know but ahead of this season, my lovely wife gave birth to our baby boy. He’s adorable. But he’ll need money for college assuming he doesn’t grow up to be a 6’4” point god or TikTok star and it still costs a pretty penny to attend.
So it’s time to open a 529 and what better way* to invest than college football picks.
Note: there are much better ways to invest money and neither I, nor BHGP, are liable for any losses you may endure as a result of any “advice.”
The ground rules:
- No more than 20% wagered per week
- No more than 5% on a single bet
Last week:
- 200 units NC State ML v Miami (FL) (net -200)
- 330 units Boise State +3.5 v BYU (net -330)
- 220 units Boise State/BYU OVER 61.5 (net +200)
- 220 units Georgia -3.5 v Florida (net -220)
- 220 units Oregon -9 v Stanford (net +200)
Bankroll: 8.772 units
The Fridays continue to be unhappy!
What a genuine disappointment last weekend was, for my wallet. I should have known it would be a testy one with the the Wolfpack scoring exactly zero points after this moment and Miami (FL) scoring 14.
Stop the count!

Friday had to go and get even worse with a total beatdown of Boise State by BYU. Zach Wilson definitely wouldn’t be doing at Iowa what he is doing in Provo! Thankfully the over hedge saved us a bit of lettuce there.
Saturday was truly a nightmare as I was hoping Stetson Bennett IV (aka BENNETTIV) was able to return to the game for Georgia. Yes, I was hoping for some Paul Pierce/wheelchair moment from the guy I was making fun of in the space a couple weeks ago.
Serves me right!
I genuinely forgot about the Oregon bet until I looked at this column so...thanks Ducks!
To the betting machine! (all lines from William Hill at some point!)
PAC-12 AFTER DARK* BABY! (*only dark because the sun sets at like 4:00p in Pullman)
Oregon Ducks (-10) at Washington State Cougars
It might be too early to hitch my wagon to a team but I stand by the initial read on Oregon from last week. Sure, their defense was aided by Stanford’s QB being withheld due to COVID-19 protocol (unclear if he actually tested positive from this?) but the broad strokes of the game were of a UO beatdown.
The concern might be if Wazzu’s 6.7 yards per carry (against Oregon State...but still) are the real deal because Oregon didn’t exactly contain Stanford.
The pick: Oregon -10, 220 units to return 420
Next we head to Boston Chestnut Hill!
Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Boston College Eagles (+13.5)
The dozens of readers who frequent this column might have been able to surmise I’m pro-home underdog. Well, that’s what BC is here and they have kept every game, save one, aggressively close. The only one they didn’t? At Virginia Tech.
Notre Dame is coming down from their huge win against Clemson which will linger well into the second half. They’ll win, but it’s close.
The pick: Boston College +13.5, 220 units to return 420
Florida State Seminoles at NC State Wolfpack (-9.5)
I thought I could quit Dave Doeren but then I realized the total disarray Mike Norvell is disarraying in Tallahassee and realized, welp, I guess it’s time to lay a couple more bucks on the Pack.
As a fan of a team which may or may not be in disarray, what is going on at FSU is truly something to behold:
FSU, by my count, is up to 16 players who have left the program since Mike Norvell arrived in December.

The pick: NC State -9.5, 330 units to return 630
Northwestern Wildcats at Purdue Boilermakers (+2.5 | ML +120)
Is Pat Fitzgerald going to pull it off again? A total skin-of-teething on his way to a Big Ten division title? I’m certainly not going to put it past him but think Jeff Brohm gets the best of him tomorrow.
I wanted to go with Michigan as the straight up pick because the only known quantity in that game is just how bad their secondary but there’s a chance Graham Mertz is cleared to play. Even when I thought guidelines were clear cut, apparently Mertz’s positive test happened recently enough?
The pick: Purdue ML, 200 units to return 440
And there you have it! May your Friday and Saturday be as plentiful as the ponks.
