With the first game of the year in the books, two Iowa Hawkeyes decided to dip their toe in the transfer portal waters after receiving very limited action against Purdue.

Linebacker Yahweh Jeudy and running back Shadrick Byrd each announced their intentions to enter the portal. Both redshirted last year, their first on campus.
Each player had an uphill climb towards playing time: Jeudy, projected as an outside linebacker, has Djimon Colbert coming back next year, while fellow redshirt freshman Jestin Jacobs saw quite a bit of action against Purdue.
Byrd, meanwhile, has sophomore stud Tyler Goodson and junior spell back Ivory Kelly-Martin ahead of him on the depth chart. He did see special teams duty this past Saturday, but that’s likely all he’d see for the next two years.
It’s worth noting that these players are entering the portal, and their departure from the program isn’t a certainty. Still, the optics of players transferring out of the program at this time is uhhhh not great.
