Iowa Football Recruiting: Class of 2021 Commitments Week 9 Recap

It’s Week 9 of high school football and we are in the Playoffs in most states. Each week we will examine stats, future opponents, and highlight videos.

Note: After originally canceling their fall season, Minnesota reversed the decision and is now playing.

Illinois still plans to play high school football in the spring.


Jeff Bowie, DE

Hometown: West Branch, IA (West Branch)

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 242

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

West Branch (5-3) fell 13-20 to Mediapolis (7-2) to end their season. Bowie finished the day with 3.5 tackles and 1 tackle for loss.

Bowie finished the season with 20.5 tackles, 11 TFL, and 4 sacks.

Brody Brecht, WR

Hometown: Ankeny, IA (Ankeny)

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 200

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Ankeny continued to roll as they hammered Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson (2-6) 70-0. Brecht had 1 catch for a 12 yard touchdown. He also had a punt return for 27 yards.

On the season Brecht has 31 catches, 433 yards, and 11 touchdowns. He has 1 interception on defense and a 57 yards punt return for a touchdown.

This week Ankeny (7-1) will face Cedar Falls (5-2) on Friday.

Arland Bruce, WR

Hometown: Ankeny, IA (Ankeny) *Previously Olathe, KS (Olathe North)

Height: 5’10”

Weight: 192

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Bruce had 4 catches for 85 yards and 1 touchdown in his limited time during the 70-0 victory over Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson.

In three games, he has 17 carries for 133 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. Through the air he has secured 14 catches for 197 yards and 3 touchdowns. On special teams he has 1 kick return for 26 yards and 1 punt return for 6 yards.

Connor Colby, OL

Hometown: Cedar Rapids, IA (Kennedy)

Height: 6’6”

Weight: 275

Stars: 247 Sports - 4 / Rivals - 4

Cedar Rapids Kennedy defeated Dubuque Senior (4-4) 28-17. On offense Kennedy dominated the ground game racking up 348 yards rushing.

Next Week Kennedy (3-3) will face off against Praire (5-2).

Cooper DeJean, ATH

Hometown: Ida Grove, IA (OABCIG)

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 198

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

DeJean powered the OABCIG offense to a 49-7 win over East Sac County (3-6). Through the air DeJean had 4 touchdowns and 226 yards on 12-16 passing. He also rushed for a touchdown on one of his 6 carries totaling 20 yards. He had once chance to return a punt and took it back for a 62 yard touchdown.

DeJean’s season totals are 124/202 for 2178 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. He also has 78 carries for 761 yards and 16 touchdowns. Defensively he has accounted for 34.5 tackles (30are solo). He has scored 3 special teams touchdowns with a kick return and two punt returns for a touchdown.

On Friday OABCIG (8-0) will take on Western Christian (5-3).

Jaden Harrell, LB

Hometown: Urbandale, IA (Urbandale)

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 220

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Harrell finished with 4 carries for 38 yards on offense and 5.5 tackles and 1 TFL on defense. He also recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown. Urbandale took down Marshalltown (3-5) with ease cruising too a 50-7 victory.

Through 7 games Harrell has 53 carries for 357 yards and 5 touchdowns. He’s secured 7 catches for 57 yards out of the backfield. The future linebacker totals 43 tackles, 5.5 TFL, and 2 sacks on defense. Harrell contributes to special teams as well as Urbandale’s punter.

The J-Hawks (6-1) have Valley (3-4) up next.

Keagan Johnson, WR

Hometown: Bellevue, NE (Bellevue West)

Height: 6’1”

Weight: 188

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Bellevue West had the week off this week.

On the season Johnson has 37 receptions for 789 yards and 8 touchdowns. He also has 12 carries for 100 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. Bellevue West (5-0) opens playoffs up this week against Lincoln Southwest (5-4).

Joey Labas, QB

Hometown: Broadview Heights, OH (Brecksville-Broadview Heights)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 190

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 2

Brecksville-Broadview Heights defeated Barberton 55-30 in the second round of the Ohio Playoffs. Labas went 16-18 with 344 yards, and 3 touchdowns. He also had a 17 yard touchdown run.

Labas has totaled 2096 yards and 15 touchdowns on 149-215 passing. On the ground he has carried the ball 65 times for 174 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights (7-1) takes on undefeated Avon (8-0) this week.

Griffin Liddle, DT

Hometown: Bettendorf, IA (Bettendorf)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 275

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Liddle had 3.5 tackles and 0.5 TFL in Bettendorf’s shut out (28-0) win over Muscatine.

His season totals are 17.5 tackles with 7 TFL and 0.5 sack.

Bettendorf (5-2) will have Pleasant Valley (8-0) this week.

Max Llewellyn, DE

Hometown: Urbandale, IA (Urbandale)

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 230

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Llewellyn did not play in Urbandale’s opening round win over Marshalltown.

He has 13 catches for 278 yards and 2 touchdown on offense to go along with his 21 tackles, 9 TFL, and 4.5 sacks on defense.

Beau Stephens, OL

Hometown: Blue Springs, MO (Blue Springs)

Height: 6’6”

Weight: 305

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Blue Springs dropped their game to Rockhurst 20-42.

On the season, Stephens has 20 tackles with 7 TFL on defense and anchors the offensive line as well.

The Wildcats (4-5) will open postseason play against Park Hill (4-5).

Justice Sullivan, LB

Hometown: Eden Praire, MN (Eden Praire)

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 225

Stars: 247 Sports - 4 / Rivals - 4

Eden Praire handled Wayzata (0-3) 36-13 with Sullivan on the sideline due to a short term injury.

Eden Praire (3-0) is off this week but will play at Prior Lake (2-1) on November 6th.

Zach Twedt, ATH

Hometown: Story City, IA (Roland-Story)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 225

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Twedt missed a portion of the season due to a shoulder injury. He finished the season with 29 carries for 103 yards and 2 receptions for 3 yards on offense. He ended up recording 14 tackles on defense.

Roland-Story (0-7) season has concluded.

The following commits have had their senior seasons postponed until the spring.

David Davidkov, OL
