Iowa Football Recruiting: Class of 2021 Commitments Week 8 Recap

Keagan Johnson (WR) continues to dominate the largest class in Nebraska.

It’s Week 8 of high school football and the start of the all-school Playoffs in Iowa. Each week we will examine stats, future opponents, and highlight videos.

Note: After originally canceling their fall season, Minnesota reversed the decision and is now playing.

Illinois still plans to play high school football in the spring.


Jeff Bowie, DE

Hometown: West Branch, IA (West Branch)

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 242

On the season, Bowie has 17 tackles, 10 TFL, and 4 sacks.

The West Branch Bears (5-2) opened post season with a bye. This week they will face off against Mediapolis (6-2).

Brody Brecht, WR

On the season Brecht has 30 catches, 421 yards, and 10 touchdowns. He has 1 interception on defense and a 57 yards punt return for a touchdown.

This week Ankeny (6-1) had a bye and will play Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson (2-5) this week. Ankeny won the first matchup between these two teams 68-0.

Cooper DeJean, ATH

DeJean’s season totals are 112/186 for 1952 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. He also has 72 carries for 741 yards and 15 touchdowns. Defensively he has accounted for 34.5 tackles (30are solo). He has scored 2 special teams touchdowns with a kick return and punt return for a touchdown.

On Friday OABCIG (7-0) had a bye for the first round and will face East Sac County (3-5) this week.

Jaden Harrell, LB

Hometown: Urbandale, IA (Urbandale)

Height: 6’2”

Through 6 games Harrell has 49 carries for 319 yards and 5 touchdowns. He’s secured 7 catches for 57 yards out of the backfield. The future linebacker totals 37.5 tackles, 4.5 TFL, and 2 sacks on defense. Harrell contributes to special teams as well as Urbandale’s punter.

The J-Hawks (5-1) had a first round bye and will play this week against Marshalltown (3-4).

Keagan Johnson, WR

Bellevue West took down Columbus 56-26 and Johnson continued his dominance. He grabbed 13 receptions for 255 yards and 1 touchdown. He also had 1 carry for 8 yards and a touchdown on the ground. On special teams Johnson had 4 kick returns for 85 yards and 2 punt returns for 19 yards.

On the season Johnson has 37 receptions for 789 yards and 8 touchdowns. He also has 12 carries for 100 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. Bellevue West (5-0) is scheduled to take on North Star (3-5) this week.

Joey Labas, QB

Hometown: Broadview Heights, OH (Brecksville-Broadview Heights)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 190

Brecksville-Broadview Heights defeated Clay 49-33 in the first round of the Ohio Playoffs. Labas went 24-30 with 314 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He also had 3 carries for 46 yards, including a 42 yard touchdown dash.

Labas has totaled 1752 yards and 12 touchdowns on 133-197 passing. On the ground he has carried the ball 5 8 times for 185 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights (6-1) hosts Barberton (3-5) on Friday. Brecksville-Broadview Heights won their first matchup 45-31.

Griffin Liddle, DT

Hometown: Bettendorf, IA (Bettendorf)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 275

His season totals are 14 tackles with 6.5 TFL and 0.5 sack.

Bettendorf (4-2) had a first round bye and plays Muscatine (3-4) the following week.

Max Llewellyn, DE

Hometown: Urbandale, IA (Urbandale)

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 230

Llewellyn now has 13 catches for 278 yards and 2 touchdown on offense to go along with his 21 tackles, 9 TFL, and 4.5 sacks on defense.

Beau Stephens, OL

Hometown: Blue Springs, MO (Blue Springs)

Height: 6’6”

Weight: 305

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Blue Springs topped Blue Springs South 28-13. On the season, Stephens has 18 tackles with 6 TFL on defense and anchors the offensive line as well.

The Wildcats (4-4) will play Rockhurst (4-3) this Friday.

Justice Sullivan, LB

Hometown: Eden Praire, MN (Eden Praire)

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 225

Stars: 247 Sports - 4 / Rivals - 4

Eden Praire handled Shakopee 52-0 with Sullivan on the sideline due to a short term injury.

Eden Praire (2-0) travel to Wayzata this week.

Zach Twedt, ATH

Hometown: Story City, IA (Roland-Story)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 225

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Twedt missed a portion of the season due to a shoulder injury. He finished the season with 29 carries for 103 yards and 2 receptions for 3 yards on offense. He ended up recording 14 tackles on defense.

Roland-Story (0-7) finished their season with an 8-50 loss to Independence.
