On Monday, the Big Ten announced its weekly conference awards, and a pair of Hawkeye guards from both the men’s and women’s basketball teams saw their names on the list.
Kathleen Doyle was named the Big Ten Player of the Week after dropping 33 points in Iowa’s 108-72 win over Illinois on Dec. 31, 2019. Then, against Northwestern on Jan. 5, she scored 15 points and dished seven assists.
Monday marked the first time Doyle earned conference player of the week accolades. Doyle leads the Hawkeyes in scoring (17 points) and assists (6.1) per game this season.
Meanwhile, Joe Toussaint earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for the men’s team.
In Iowa’s loss to Penn State on Jan. 4, Toussaint scored career-high 18 points, dished four assists, and notched two steals. He was one of three Hawkeyes to score in double-figures.
Through 14 games, Toussaint is averaging seven points, 2.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Toussaint earned a spot in the starting lineup after Jordan Bohannon’s season ended with injury.
