Five for Friday: Epenesa and Wirfs

Based on everything we know so far, where are their most likely landing spots?

With all the animosity between groups out there, and no I’m not talking Democrats and Republicans, I wanted to try something out where everyone is always correct.

On Fridays, I will throw out a topic asking for your top five in whatever the conversation is that week. I’ll give my opinion and then read your choices in the comment section. We’ll keep this going as long as there is some participation.

As these are your (or my) opinions, we can’t be wrong so just have fun with the topic.

Last week we discussed your favorite sports movies and today we’re going to focus on Hawkeye football players A.J. Epenesa and Tristan Wirfs who both recently announced that they were heading to the NFL.

Five for Friday

While we’ll surely have more detailed analysis on the 2020 NFL draft as it gets closer to April, I wanted everyone to have a chance to get their predictions in writing. For each player I’ll list my top five predictions on where I think they’ll land but you’re welcome to just give one team per player in the comments if you desire.

I did some quick research on what the mock drafts are saying and reviewed 12 different sites. On average, Wirfs is predicted to go in the 11th spot (New York Jets) and Epenesa is predicted at 15th (Denver). Epenesa has the widest projection falling anywhere from 4-28 while Wirfs is in the 4-26 range. The most often predicted choice for Wirfs is 8th to Arizona and 16th for Epenesa to Atlanta.

My Five for Friday

Here is the current draft order:

  1. Cincinnati
  2. Washington
  3. Detroit
  4. NY Giants
  5. Miami
  6. L.A. Chargers
  7. Carolina
  8. Arizona
  9. Jacksonville
  10. Cleveland
  11. NY Jets
  12. Oakland (Las Vegas??)
  13. Indianapolis
  14. Tampa Bay
  15. Denver
  16. Atlanta
  17. Dallas
  18. Miami
  19. Oakland
  20. Jacksonville
  21. Philadelphia
  22. Buffalo
  23. New England
  24. New Orleans
  25. Minnesota
  26. Miami
  27. Seattle
  28. Baltimore
  29. Tennessee*
  30. Green Bay*
  31. Kansas City*
  32. San Francisco*

*Last four picks subject to playoff finish.

Here are my initial guesses for each player.

Epenesa

  1. Carolina (7th)
  2. Indianapolis (12th)
  3. NY Jets (11th)
  4. Atlanta (16th)
  5. Tampa Bay (14th)

Wirfs

  1. Miami (5th)
  2. Arizona (8th)
  3. NY Jets (11th)
  4. Cleveland (10th)
  5. Denver (15th)

So those are my guesses, what do you think? Anyone brave enough to predict a trade or for one of them to fall out of the first round? Anyone higher than the number four pick?

Go Hawks!
