Happy New Year football fans! Hope everyone celebrated last night right and is recovering well this morning. Today marks the beginning of a new decade (if you want to get all technical about it, I suppose next year will officially mark the new decade since there was no year 0, but we’re out of the teens and into the twenties nonetheless). It’s a decade in which the Hawkeyes are undefeated in all sports. And what better way to kick off a new decade than to recover from 2019 with a day full of football?
Things kick off today at noon CT. The Outback Bowl features #18 Minnesota and #12 Auburn. I can’t think of a better way to start the decade than with a Gopher loss. Who hates Minnesota? You can watch on ESPN.
At the same time, ABC has the Citrus Bowl. That features #13 Alabama and #14 Michigan. It feels pretty gross, but a Bama win would likely lead to Iowa jumping Michigan in the final AP rankings.
At 4pm, the action continues on ESPN with the Rose Bowl. That features #6 Oregon and #8 Wisconsin. Iowa fans have competing interests here. A Wisconsin win helps the perception of the Big Ten, but a Wisconsin loss is always good for Iowa. It’s a new year, you do you.
And finally, things wrap up with the Sugar Bowl at 7:45 CT. That features #5 Georgia and #7 Baylor. I have no direction to give on rooting interests here.
And that’s it for today’s games. Play nice in the comments and report the spam.
Go Hawks!
