Camp is gearing up, Iowa football is coming.
In it’s history, Iowa has had 27 consensus All-Americans, the latest being Josh Jackson and Josey Jewell in 2017. This year, #27 will not be named an All-American but he will begin getting his feet wet in the Hawkeye program.
Jermari Harris — Freshman
Chicago, IL (Montini Catholic)
6’1”, 177 lbs
2019 Projection: Reserve DB (Redshirt)
While Iowa is known for it’s offensive lineman and tight ends, defensive backs from the program are now showing up on NFL rosters more often. When Coach Parker identifies someone that he wants for his defensive backfield, I’m all in.
We wrote up Harris when he committed in the February signing period. There it was pointed out that he shows many of the raw skills that Desmond King had when he first came to Iowa.
Now in the program, Harris will progress as they coach him up. Ultimately, in a couple years we’ll see what the ceiling is for Harris. I doubt that there are many inside the program that don’t believe that he can’t become a great contributor for the Hawkeyes.
Apologies to #28 Jack Koerner who didn’t make yesterday’s write-up. Koerner is a redshirt sophomore defensive back from Des Moines (Dowling). Koerner played in twelve games last year, mostly on special teams, where he registered two tackles. Look for even more from Koerner this season as he is listed second on the depth chart at free safety.
