Color me shocked, but I thought for sure that on Kirk Ferentz’s 64th birthday that the other coaches around college football would bow down and show some respect to the Dean of the Big Ten and vote his ever consistent program as the #1 team in the land. It’s not like it really means anything in the grand scheme of things...throw the guy a bone.
But, alas, here we are at #19... five spots ahead of our not so little brother to the West and two spots behind our slightly bigger twin brother to the north.
Whether you care or not about preseason polls (especially the coaches), it’s content and we all thirst for it. Well at least most of us.
At a quick glance, this marks the official floor for Iowa going into the season. It’s great to have some preseason hype, but unless Iowa starts putting some real space behind them and Wisconsin and Northwestern (and catching up to Ohio State and Michigan), nothing else really matters. It’s Big Ten West or bust for me heading into September. And while it may be a small victory that Iowa is here and a part of the Top-25 discussion, the only thing that really, REALLY matters is what number Iowa finishes as.
