Welcome Iowa’s starting long snapper!
Jackson Subbert – Senior
Williamsburg, IA (Williamsburg)
6’3”, 243 lbs
2019 Projection: Starting LS
With the departure of Tyler Kluver, Jackson Subbert stands atop the Iowa long-snapping mountain for 2019. Subbert got his fair share of work in last year, and had a career-defining moment right here:
I’m not certain if there’s more wizardry being conjured in the Iowa coach’s room, but knowing you have a semi-athletic and capable long-snapper is helpful!
Junior Austin Spiewak and fellow senior Nate Vejvoda are the only other long snappers on the roster. Spiewak has yet to see game action, while Vejvoda got his nose wet during some blowouts in 2016 and the Illinois game last year. This is Subbert’s job to lose.
With Iowa’s punting situation in a current state of nightmare, it’ll be good to have a long-snapper to rely on. Iowa’s special teams are usually pretty on point, and I don’t suspect Subbert will have trouble with field goal unit duties, either.
Welcome to Iowa football in 2019, where Long Snapping is Winning.
