We’re back!
Nate Vejvoda – RS Senior
Homer Glen, IL (Providence Catholic)
6’5”, 250 lbs
2019 Projection: Backup long snapper
Nate Vejvoda came to Iowa at arguably the worst time. After coming in as a tight end from the 2015 recruiting class, he promptly redshirted to Doyle-ize. He stands at the classic 6’5”, 250 you see from nearly every recent Iowa TE.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to break through before Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson came to Iowa City. Fant vaulted onto the field as a freshman and Hockenson wowed in spring practice that same season. Vejvoda saw time on special teams. Given Iowa’s depth at tight end, he shifted over to long snapper, something else he did in high school.
Of course, Vejvoda’s Iowa career is a what if at tight end, but when the guys who blitzed through the depth chart are taken in the first round of the NFL Draft, the lack of playing time is a little easier to stomach. Credit to him to stick it out as an academic all-Big Ten athlete (3x) and try to find a place where he can make a difference on the football team. If his high school highlights are any indication, he might just be the next trick play hero on Iowa’s roster.
