2019 Projection: Reserve wide receiver

Calvin Lockett came to the Iowa Hawkeyes as an all-state selection from Florida after tallying 425 yards on 13 catches his senior year. He chose Iowa over a group of schools including Purdue, Wisconsin, and Boston College.

It’s easy to see why he garnered interest for so many schools as a deep threat. He runs a pretty good go route and displays an ability to get to the ball above his defender. He has just a couple plays in his highlight reel where he isn’t running a deep pattern but showed a quick burst on a punt return and a nice hit as safety.

His high school coach was former Hawkeye Marcus Paschal, who had very nice things to say to Hawkeye Nation about Lockett, both on the field and off.

With just two wide receiver positions on the spring depth chart, Lockett was unable to crack into the top 4 but would likely serve as a backup to Brandon Smith, as they are similarly skilled players. His path to the field this season will probably be through special teams and spot duty as a backup.
