The 2019 NCAA Women’s Bracket has been released and it has the Iowa Hawkeyes seeded as the #2 team in the Greensboro region, facing the Mercer Bears. They’ll tip off at 1 PM God’s Time on Friday.

Also in Iowa’s pod, hosted at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, are the #7 Missouri Tigers and #10 Drake Bulldogs. A potential second round matchup between Drake and Iowa would be rife with intrigue. It would mean Lisa Bluder taking on the place where she cut her teeth as a head coach, amassing a record of 187-106 (.638) and five tournament appearances. She coached her current assistants, Jan Jenson and Tricia Wakely, during her time there.
Should Missouri win, an Iowa legacy Cierra Porter would face the Hawkeyes. Porter’s brothers are Michael and Jontay; their mother, Lisa, played at Iowa in the 80s.
Somehow the bracket reveal was not without some controversy. ESPN released the bracket on ESPNU during a totally irrelevant show where Dicky V screamed over everybody. (I’m assuming) Because of the error, they decided to release it early on ESPN2, during working hours, which caught everyone on staff off guard. Programming breaking down the bracket will be on ESPN at the regularly scheduled time.

Iowa is in Baylor’s bracket, and includes N.C. State and South Carolina as the 3 and 4 seeds. Both potential opponents would also have Iowa playing in enemy territory, Greensboro, N.C.
Another bit of frustration is the start time coinciding with the end of Iowa’s matchup against Cincinnati.
What else do you see?
