Black originally committed back in June, and the Hawkeyes were able to hold off pushes from the Boat-Rowers to keep Black in the ... Black & Gold, not Maroon & Gold.
Black is being projected as a defensive end by recruiting services but I’m not convinced that’s the position he’ll end up at for Iowa. He started on both sides of the ball for Marshall High School, taking on left tackle duties as well as mopping things up at D end. He was also in the mix on the interior defensive line since he was often the biggest player on the field.
His huge frame gives the Iowa coaches a lot to work with, and Black is one of seven other recruits this class who played defensive end in high school. His experience on the offensive line is something that the staff loves to see. It wouldn’t take much to convincing to get anyone to try out offensive line for the Hawkeyes I imagine.
Besides Iowa and Minnesota, Black’s only other D-1 offers come from Kansas State and Buffalo. He also held offers from all the schools in the Dakotas. Keeping Black, one of the best players in Minnesota, from the Gophers is already a win, and he’s obviously a smart kid knowing that he’ll develop to his fullest potential within the Hawkeye program.
Best of luck to Mr. Black. We look forward to you keeping the pig against your home state school.
