College Football’s early signing period begins on Wednesday, December 18th. The period, for high school seniors, remains open until Friday, December 20th.
While the official timetable offers some flexibility and years past have seen Iowa making some moves on signing day, this year is expected to be pretty straightforward. The Hawkeyes have 22 players committed in the class of 2020. As it stands today, the class is ranked 23rd in the nation by Rivals and 24th according to 247 Sports. That’s good enough for 4th in the Big Ten according to both services.
Both sites credit the Hawkeyes with two 4-star commits, though they differ on who those are. In total, the class is set to include players from 11 different states, including 4 home grown Hawkeyes. There are 13 defensive commits and 9 on the offensive side of the ball. Defensive end is the position with the most commits, coming in at 7 of the 22 total commits.
It’s important to note Iowa’s history of position changes. A number of the prospects in this class are likely to switch positions, and even sides of the ball, before their time is up in Iowa City. For evidence, look no further than this year’s starting center Tyler Linderbaum, who came to Iowa as a defensive tackle.
As a quick refresher, here’s a look at the full class heading into the early signing period.
