Each week of the high school football season, we break down the performance of each of Iowa’s commits in the recruiting class of 2020. As a reminder, you can keep up to date on all things recruiting by visiting the Iowa Football Recruiting Hub.
This week marked the final week of performances for members of Iowa’s recruiting class of 2020. There was only one commit in action. That was Texas tight end Elijah Yelverton. We take a look at his performance this week and recap senior season stats for all 22 commits in the class.
Deuce Hogan, QB
Hometown: Grapevine, TX (Faith Christian)
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 205

Quarterback Deuce Hogan and Faith Christian fell in the state semifinals. Hogan finished his senior season 169 of 291 passing (58.1%) for 2,363 yards with 29 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Faith Christian finished the year 10-2.
Gavin Williams, RB
Hometown: West Des Moines, IA (Dowling)
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 195

Running back Gavin Williams and Dowling Catholic won the Iowa class 4A state championship. In 10 games of action this season, Williams finished with 1,259 yards and 19 TDs on 140 carries for a 9.0 yard per carry average. Dowling finished the season 12-1.
Leshon Williams, RB
Hometown: Oak Lawn, IL (Richards)
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 205

Leshon Williams and Richards saw their season come to an end in the state quarterfinals. In just 6 games this season, Williams finished with 1,001 yards and 12 TDs on 121 carries (8.3 ypc). Richards finished the year 10-2.
Quavon Matthews, WR
Hometown: Largo, FL (Largo)
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 170

Wide receiver commit Quavon Matthews and Largo saw their season come to an end in the second round of the playoffs to finish the year 8-4. Matthews finished his senior season with 414 yards and 2 TDs on 17 catches for a 24.4 ypc average.
Diante Vines, WR
Hometown: Watertown, CT (The Taft School)
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 190

Wide receiver Diante Vines and Taft did not qualify for postseason play. Vines finished his senior year with 45 catches for 553 yards (12.3 ypc) and 8 receiving touchdowns.
Elijah Yelverton, TE
Hometown: Cedar Hill, TX (Trinity Christian)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 235

Tight end Elijah Yelverton had 4 catches for 14 yards (3.5 ypc) and a TD as Trinity Christian defeated Regents School of Austin 48-19 to win the state championship.
Yelverton ends his senior year with 593 yards and 9 TDs on 63 catches (9.4 ypc). Trinity Christian will play Regents in the state championship this week. Trinity Christian to 13-1 finishes the year.
Luke Lachey, TE
Hometown: Grandview Heights, OH (Grandview Heights)
Height: 6’7”

Fellow tight end Luke Lachey and Grandview Heights fell in the second round of the playoffs to finish the year 7-5. Lachey finished with 57 catches for 720 yards (12.6 ypc) and 7 touchdowns. He also ran for 337 yards and 3 TDs on 43 carries (7.8 ypc) and added 5 interceptions on defense.
Brenden Deasfernandes, DB
Hometown: Belleville, MI (Belleville)
Height: 6’0”

Cornerback commit Brenden Deasfernandes and Belleville saw their season come to an end in the state semifinals. Deasfernandes finished the year with 22 tackles, 8 passes broken up and an interception Belleville finished the season 12-1.

Safety Reginald Bracy and St. Paul’s fell in the second round of the playoffs. Bracy finished the year with 89 tackles, 6 TFL, 3 sacks, 7 PBUs and an interception. St. Paul’s finished the year 8-4.

AJ Lawson, DB

Defensive back AJ Lawson and MacArthur fell in the first round of the playoffs. Lawson finished his senior year with 681 receiving yards and 7 TDs on 39 catches (17.5 ypc) on offense and a pair of interceptions on defense. MacArthur finished the year 5-5.
Jay Higgins, LB
Hometown: Indianapolis, IN (Brebeuf Jesuit Prep)
Height: 6’0”

Linebacker commit Jay Higgins and Brebeuf Jesuit fell in the first round of the Indiana State Playoffs. Higgins finished the year with 151 tackles, 8.5 TFL, 5 PBUs and a sack on defense, as well as 329 yards and 4 touchdowns on 26 catches on the offensive side of the ball. Brebeuf Jesuit finished 7-3.
Ethan Hurkett, LB
Hometown: Cedar Rapids, IA (Xavier)
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 230

Ethan Hurkett and Xavier fell in the first round of the playoffs. Hurkett finished his senior season with 70 tackles, 14.5 TFL, a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery. Xavier finished 8-2 on the year.

Isaiah Bruce, DE

Defensive lineman Isaiah Bruce and Lena-Winslow won the Illinois class 1A state title, finishing the year 14-0. Bruce finished his senior year with 63 tackles and 15 TFL on defense and 1,050 yards and 16 touchdowns on 84 carries (12.5 ypc) on offense.
Tyler Elsbury, OL
Hometown: Byron, IL (Byron)
Height: 6’6”

Offensive lineman Tyler Elsbury and Byron lost in the Illinois class 3A state championship to end the season 12-2. Elsbury tallied 66 tackles on the defensive side of the ball as a senior.

As mentioned Cedar Rapids Xavier and OL Josh Volk fell in the first round of the playoffs. They ended the year 8-2.
Congratulations to all Iowa’s commits on tremendous senior seasons. The early signing period for the class of 2020 kicks off next week. All of Iowa’s 22 commits are expected to sign at that time.
