The most hyped player of the Fran McCaffery era since... Joe Wieskamp is up to bat.
Previously:
Joe Toussaint
Guard, 6-0, 185 lbs.
Freshman, Bronx, NY (Cardinal Hayes)
Joe Toussaint is hailed as the type of point guard Fran McCaffery has never secured (save for maybe Anthony Clemmons) since he’s been in Iowa City: a slasher who can create his own shot, distribute and be an absolute terror when driving to the rim.
And well, his high school tape fits that bill.
But what can he do against some real competition?
JT’s outing against Lindsey Wilson College was uhhhh not great on Monday, as the New Yorker had just five points while shooting 1-7. He did have 7 rebounds and 3 assists in 20 minutes of action, but he didn’t do enough to usurp Connor McCaffery from the starting point guard role while Jordan Bohannon figures things out.
It’s too early to make any sort of intelligent prediction on Joe Toussaint, but I think we’re going to be pretty happy with his time as a Hawkeye when the dust settles.
Expect a healthy dose of JT all season long, regardless of what happens with Bohannon. I suspect he’ll have a healthy case of the yips early on this year, but am optimistic he’ll be in full (or at least more-than-servicable) form by the time the Big Ten season rolls around, and probably well before then.
I’m excited for this. Who’s ready to be MAD again?
