The Hawkeyes had the week off following back-to-back wins in their last two outings. They were one of 9 teams previously ranked in the top-25 to have the week off. While more than a third of ranked teams were resting, there were still some upsets for other top-25 teams.

That included 15th-ranked SMU, which opened the door for the Hawkeyes to move up a spot in this week’s rankings. They did just that in both the AP and Coaches polls.

In the Coaches, Iowa moved up one spot from 19th to 18th with the aforementioned SMU falling to 23rd. The Hawkeyes’ week 11 opponent, Wisconsin, also climbed one spot to 16th.

It was a similar story in the AP poll where Iowa moved up one spot from 19th to 18th. Wisconsin jumped two spots, going from 18th to 16th while leapfrogging Cincinnati for some reason.

Elsewhere, Ohio State and Penn State remained unchanged at 3rd and 5th respectively. Minnesota and Michigan also remained unchanged at 13th and 14th. Notre Dame managed to move up a spot on the SMU loss despite coming incredibly close to losing themselves. Two-loss Florida managed to stay in the top-10, ahead of undefeated Baylor. Notably absent are the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
