The good news on the recruiting trail continues to roll in with a second commitment for the Iowa defense.

The Iowa coaching staff has had a pretty good couple weeks. After taking down the 8th-ranked Minnesota Gophers and defeating Illinois on Senior Day, they lured a top prospect from the Gopher state on Sunday when 4-star linebacker Justice Sullivan committed time the Hawkeyes. That alone would have made most staffs quite happy. But in Iowa City, the good news kept rolling on Sunday.

Leas than two hours after landing Sullivan, Phil Parker’s defense got yet another boost as we learned that Bettendorf defensive tackle Griffin Liddle will also be a Hawkeyes.

Liddle is another big pickup for the staff. He’s long been seen as an Iowa lean, but with offers from Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa State and interest from the likes of Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Stanford and others, he was a very nice surprise as a second commit on the day.

Unlike Sullivan, who could project to a couple different positions, Liddle is almost certainly going to be a DT for Phil Parker. He’s already got the size to contribute as just a high school junior at 6’3” and 275 pounds, but he’s also got the power and burst to be a major problem for blockers up the middle.

As a junior at Bettendorf this season, Liddle finished with 60 tackles and 9.5 tackles for loss. Those are pretty incredible numbers for a tackle, who’s typically tasked with simply eating up blockers. On film, he really jumps off the screen with his size and power.

While Liddle is the second commitment of the day for Iowa, he’s the 5th commitment overall in the class of 2021, which has jumped all the way into the top ten nationally according to Rivals. Liddle, whose father wrestled for the Hawkeyes, is the third Iowan to join the class, joining Cedar Rapids OL Connor Colby and Jaden Harrell of Urbandale.

Welcome aboard Griffin Liddle!
