The bad feelings from a tough defeat to DePaul to start the week were slightly eliminated as Iowa used their superior size to take down Oral Roberts 87-74.

Iowa led 55-40 at halftime and held the lead throughout the second half as the closest Oral Roberts could get was ten points.

The game was only available on Big Ten+ and the crowd at Carver-Hawkeye was anything but full and excited.

Luka Garza has a career night.

Luka Garza had a double-double with 30 points on 12-19 from the field including two three pointers. Garza had ten rebounds, six of which were offensive boards. To complete his box score he had two steals and a block as well as committing only one foul on the night.

Four other Hawkeyes had at least ten points.

Iowa shot 47.1% from the field but only 57.7% from the free throw line and only 33.3% from deep.

Joining Garza in double figures was Jack Nunge with 14 (and 10 rebounds), Joe Wieskamp and Jordan Bohannon with 11, and Connor McCaffery with 10 points.

Nunge and McCaffery in particular looked active and were key ingredients to the Hawkeyes strong first half.

Other talking points.

Joe Toussaint, Ryan Kriener, Cordell Pensl, and Bakari Evelyn didn’t show much tonight and as such didn’t see much court time. Patrick McCaffery didn’t play due to an unnamed illness.

Golden Eagle guard Max Abmas led Oral Roberts with 25 points and the team shot 82% from the free throw line to keep the game from getting out of hand.
