Iowa is riding its defense back into the Top 25.

The Iowa Hawkeyes, behind arguably the most dominant defense of the Kirk Ferentz era, jumped back into the FanPulse Top 25 this week. In addition to the Hawkeyes’ reappearance, there’s a new #1 team:

LSU is having a pretty good week when you consider they’re not only the #1 team in the FanPulse and AP rankings this week but secured a commitment from a kid with a 5-star name.

Following its loss to Ohio St, Wisconsin slipped to 19 this week putting Minnesota as the top Big Ten West team in the rankings. SpoCo Radio listeners know, I’m withholding Minnesota thoughts until after the Penn State game but it’s pretty remarkable that we’re 9 weeks into the season and the Gophers have sailed this far (see what I did there?). Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Ohio State continues to look like the most talented team in country and can’t get ahead of Alabama while Michigan throttled Notre Dame yet remains behind the Irish in the poll.

Speaking of the Michigan beatdown, it was the second most surprising moment of the weekend according to all you voters. The most shocking was KState’s upset over Oklahoma, which effectively killed the Big 12’s chances of making the playoff this season.

Wrapping up things here on the Hawkeyes this week. Fan confidence ticked up slightly this week despite the shutout of Northwestern. Fan confidence is at 70.7% this week heading into the game against the Badgers in 2 weeks. It’ll be interesting to see where the rating goes to following that game in Madison. The Iowa specific poll has the Hawkeyes at 20th with Ohio State as the #1 team in the country.

Make sure you’re signed up for the FanPulse poll and have your voice heard. Each week Hawkeye fans vote on the poll, as well as other questions about the direction of the program. Get in on the action today and let your voice be heard!
