It was another disappointing loss for Iowa yesterday as they fell to #10 Penn State 17-12. That’s the second week in a row the offense has sputtered and the Hawkeyes have lost by one score or less to a ranked opponent.
Despite the poor offensive showing, the defense has looked great and the voters in both the AP and Coaches polls have rewarded the Hawkeyes by keeping them in the top 25.
In the Coaches, Iowa fell from 17th to 22nd with the loss. That’s two spots behind Minnesota, who entered the poll for the first time all year. Penn State climbed all the way to #7 this week. Last week’s opponent, Michigan, comes in at #16. You can view the whole poll here.
In the AP, things were largely the same as Minnesota makes their debut at #20, Michigan remains unchanged at #16 and Penn State climbs from #10 to #7. Ohio State is at #4 and Wisconsin climbed from #8 to #6 this week. Iowa fell one more spot in the AP than the Coaches, coming in at #23.
That makes 6 Big Ten teams ranked as Michigan State fell out. The conference also has three teams in the top ten with Penn State, Wisconsin and Ohio State. Both of those are tied with the SEC, though the SEC has the nation’s top two teams with Alabama and LSU. Clemson drops from 2nd to 3rd this week.
