IOWA FOOTBALL RECRUITING: THREE-STAR WIDEOUT COMMITS TO HAWKEYES

IOWA GETS A BIG RECEIVER

@Desmond_Hutson

Kelton Copeland is hot on the recruiting trail for #Swarm19 as Desmond Hutson, a three-star receiver out of Kansas City announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes Tuesday evening.

At 6-4, 190 lbs, Hutson is one of the larger receivers Iowa has targeted in awhile. He attended Iowa’s spring game in mid-April, and though he told reporters he wasn’t in any rush to make a decision, it appears as though the call to Iowa City was too great for Hutson.

Hutson plays for Raytown High School in Raytown, MO. As a junior he accumulated 14 touchdowns and 792 yards on 49 catches. His tape shows an uncanny acrobatic ability to go up for jump balls and use his long arms to haul them in. These are skills he has to use often because, you know, high school quarterbacks.

Hutson is the only wide receiver commit so far in the class of 2019. Iowa was apparently his only D-I offer, but had interest from Minnesota, Purdue and Kansas State per 247.

Wide receiver has been a position of need at Iowa since always, as it seems the Hawkeyes strike out on roughly nine out of 10 recruits at the position. Hutson’s size and length is reassuring. It’s also very fitting the above highlight tape includes some plays where he blocks.

It’s worth mentioning the death of Hutson’s brother — he brings it up in his commitment Tweet. Last year his older brother, Chris Hutson was the victim of a road rage incident that left him dead.

Best of luck to Hutson, our latest member of #Swarm19. I look forward to watching him grab touchdowns in the coming years.

Go Hawks.
