After Iowa lost an extra-innings battle 2-1 to Michigan yesterday, Purdue went on to shellack Ohio State 8-2 in the first round of the Big Ten baseball tournament.
Iowa and OSU now find themselves in the losers bracket of the tournament, likely putting postseason hopes to rest for both teams.
Iowa took two games out of three against the Buckeyes in early April. Since then, Ohio State has gone 14-11 and perhaps on the cusp of making regionals if they could muster a run in Omaha; not unlike Iowa.
Today we’ll see Cole McDonald on the bump for the good guys while Ryan Feltner is pitching for the bad guys. McDonald tossed six innings against Ohio State, striking out a career-high eight batters in a 2-1 Iowa win. Feltner, was part of a 9-5 lost to Iowa — he gave up seven runs in the first inning of that one, if you recall.
