The Hawkeyes haven’t had a great history of safety play as of late, but fringe four-star recruit and now Iowa Hawkeye Julius Brents looks to come in and change that culture. Brents, one of Iowa’s three big-time recruits from the Hoosier State, has a strong highlight tape showing strengths that we haven’t seen in the Iowa secondary in quite some time. Sure, he can lay the wood on opposing ball-carriers and that’s great, but what’s maybe the best is that you get the sense that he’s strong in run support and a sure tackler.
Brents was a four-star recruit when he committed to Iowa back in early September, but some recruiting services have since cooled on him, dropping him to a high three-star (Rivals still lists him as a four-star). Judging by his list of offers, he wasn’t slept on, and he figures to be a prominent player for the Hawkeyes at the collegiate level.
