Iowa Football Recruiting: 3-Star Defensive Back DJ Johnson Signs with Hawkeyes

Iowa has landed the top DB in Indiana.

Like fellow Hoosier State product Julius Brents, DJ Johnson officially announced on Wednesday morning that he signed with the University of Iowa during the Early Signing Period.

DJ Johnson could turn out to be one of the crown jewels of this class when his career is finished at Iowa. He doesn’t have elite size like current Iowa standout Josh Jackson, but what he lacks in that department, he more than makes up for with his athleticism and instincts. Taking a look at his film, you can tell that his instincts are top notch in his ability to get his body around to make plays on the ball, but what’s most impressive is the speed he displays. In the case that he makes a mistake in coverage, he’s shown the ability to recover, mostly thanks to his speed.

It was rumored for a while that the LSU offer he received might be enough to get him to change his mind about donning the black and gold, as well as murmurs that Ohio State was showing interest, but Johnson stayed true to his commitment by signing with the Hawkeyes back in December.

Desmond King and Josh Jackson were the last two great Iowa corners - could Johnson be next?

Here’s the quick bio on DJ Johnson:
