Iowa Football Recruiting: DE Chris Reames Signs With Hawkeyes

Tall defensive ends are good

Twitter

A long time ago in a city not very far away, an Xavier defensive end prospect named Matt Nelson decided to sign with Iowa over a host of other schools.

He was very tall. Now, another Iowa high school defensive end product who also happens to be extremely tall will be joining the Hawkeyes: Chris Reames.

Besides immediately becoming a candidate for the Iowa all-hair team, history might have a chance to repeat itself. Reames isn’t quite as heavy as Nelson was coming in, but has still been a very productive high school player.

He finished the 2018 season with 63 tackles, 11 TFL, and 2 sacks. He also caught two passes for 33 yards and two touchdowns. Van Meter ended the year 11-1 and fell in the 1A state finals. They’d been state champions the year before.

So what happens to Reames? It’ll be interesting to see if Doyle and Co. can bump him up a bit and if so, he might just become a key piece down the line.
