Iowa Football Recruiting: DE Jake Karchinski Signs With Hawkeyes

The defensive end is Iowa’s only signee from America’s Dairyland.

@HawkeyeFootball

Wisconsin defensive end Jake Karchinski, Iowa’s lone commit from America’s Dairyland, is officially a Hawkeye, as he signed his Letter of Intent to enroll at Iowa this upcoming year!

Karchinski, a three-star recruit by both 247 and Rivals, originally committed to the University of Iowa back in May 2018. He had a plethora of offers, most of which included MAC schools, but he did have a Syracuse offer and interest from Wisconsin and Iowa State. He was also the subject of a fun little controversy including Iowa State QB coach Jim Hofher!

The defensive end product showed some versatility in high school, playing both sides of the ball - he was often lined up at tight end on offense, and on the defensive side of things, he was always on the outside, whether that be at linebacker or defensive end. He has some pretty solid speed to go along with his large frame, so hopefully he can mold himself into another pass rushing stud once Anthony Nelson and A.J. Epenesa depart the program in time.

Karchinski and West De Pere lost in the Wisconsin Division 3 state title game. Karchinski finished his year with 59 tackles, 17 TFL and 7.5 sacks, a forced fumble as well as 2 fumble recoveries. West De Pere finished the season 13-1.

Congrats to Jake on signing his LOI, and we can’t wait to see you play your college ball in Kinnick Stadium!
